Egnyte Hot Tip - Sharing Links

Links

Sharing files and folders using an Egnyte link is particularly useful, especially if the file size of the item you need to share is too big to email. You can also request documents with the share links.

This becomes very useful when sharing issue for construction documents, or even sharing completion documents with consultants.

You can do this from both the desktop and the web version of Egnyte

Desktop

To create a file share link, right click on the folder or individual file that you want to send.

Click Show More Options in the options list.

In the dropdown options list, click Share next to the Egnyte symbol.

Then select a link option:

  • If you are just sending the link internally, you can click "Copy Link (Default Options)" – open the email or message that you are using to send the link, and right click and select Paste or hold down ctrl + V
  • If you are sending the link externally, it is best to check the link options by clicking "View Link Options…"
This will open the web version of Egnyte with the Share Folder pop-up open.

With the Share Folder pop up, you can see the date the link will currently expire, you can click Get Link to now generate the share link to copy and paste, or you can email the link directly.

Clicking Email Link will open the Outlook desktop app with a new email open containing the link.

If you want to change the expiry date or set a password for the link, instead click Change Link Options.

Select the options to suit, and click Get Link or Email Link as before.

Online

To share a link straight from the web version of Egnyte, hover your mouse over the folder or individual file you want to share, then select the relevant option.

Clicking Share Folder Link will open the Share Folder pop-up as described previously.

Clicking Copy Direct Link is the same as Copy Link (Default Options) in the desktop version.

You can also use this method to generate a link to Request Files from Others – invited people will be able to upload files directly to the folder they were invited to, but will not be able to see the content of the folder.

If you click this option, you will receive an alert email when the recipient opens the link you sent.
