Linking Items

Linking items on Procore is a great way to show the workflow pathway, and to ensure that and is an easy way to see what items are related to each other.

An example of this is to link an RFI with the associated CAN and CI, or to link a CI with a SI to show clearly where the item came from.

You can link two existing items, or you can create a linked item directly from the original.

Linking Existing Items

If you want to link any item in Procore to another, open the item.

Click on the Related Items tab at the top of the page.

In the Related Items tab, click the Link Related Items button.

In the pop-out list, use the search bar to search the item Type e.g. CI, NOD, Inspection etc.

Or scroll down to select the correct Type from the list.

Once you have selected the Type, another list will show - use the search bar or scroll to find the specific item you want to link.

Add any notes if necessary, then click Link.

Create and Link

The other way to link items is to Create and Link – this is for the Correspondence tool and the RFI tool.

Consultants also have the permissions to do this for RFIs and their relevant Correspondence types.

RFI:

To create a Correspondence from an RFI (e.g. to create a CI linked to the RFI), open the RFI.

At the top of the page click the three dots and select Create Correspondence.

  • You can also select to create another RFI, or a Change Event

Once you have clicked Create Correspondence, select the Correspondence Type from the dropdown.

This will take you to the item creation page – create the item as usual from there.

In the completed correspondence item, the linked item will look like this in the Links section underneath the General Information.

The link works both ways so, for example, the RFI will have a link to the CI and the CI will have a link to the RFI.

Correspondence:

To link one Correspondence item with another, or with a Change Event or RFI, open the original Correspondence (e.g. creating an SI out of an existing CI).

At the top of the page click the Link dropdown, then select Create and Link New Item.

Once you have clicked Create and Link New Item, select the Correspondence Type (or RFI or Change Event) from the dropdown.

This will take you to the item creation page – create the item as usual from there.

In the completed correspondence item, the linked RFI will look like this in the Links section underneath the General Information.

The link works both ways so, for example, the CI will have a link to the SI and the SI will have a link to the CI.
